You will be able to see your family’s health information and their cost savings opportunities if: 1. You have a HIPAA release on file for a spouse/dependent(s) above the restricted age (e.g. Age 18). 2. Your dependents are under the restricted age decided upon by the state or insurance carrier. You will receive a “HIPPA Alert” notifying you there are savings opportunities available for your spouse/dependent(s) if they are over the age specified by your state and insurance carrier and there is not a HIPAA form on file. You are prompted to download and print the HIPAA release form to submit to HR. Having the HIPAA release on file will allow you to take advantage of cost savings for all family members.
A HIPAA release is a form signed by other family members giving you permission to view their personal healthcare information. Once you sign up for change:healthcare, if you have cost savings that are related to prescription(s) and/or care received by other family members, you may be asked to provide a HIPAA release form to view those savings.
If you cannot find the information you need within the Get Help section of the site, begin by contacting your HR department or insurance company (depending upon who is providing the cost transparency tool) directly. If you are still having trouble, please contact change:healthcare customer service at 800-655-0732 ext. 1.
Typically it takes about 5-7 business days from the point of receipt of the HIPAA form for access to be updated. change:healthcare will notify the employee via email once this update is active.
HIPAA stands for Healthcare Information Portability and Accountability Act, which is federal legislation regarding patients' rights with respect to the handling and privacy of an individual's healthcare records by healthcare industry professionals.
